In the sixth round of the Norway Chess tournament, world champion Dommaraju Gukesh defeated world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen for the first time in a historic encounter. But Carlsen lost to Gukesh and pounded the table right away, unable to contain his wrath.

Gukesh made a remarkable comeback after playing poorly against Carlsen in the first game. Before he turned things around and won his first Classical chess match in 62 moves and more than four hours of nerve-racking chess, he appeared to be losing Sunday’s match as well.
His Polish coach, Grzegorz Gajewski, stated that the victory will give the adolescent “a huge pump” as he moves further into the competition and in future matches against the Norwegian, despite Gukesh’s refusal to talk to the media.
“Winning simply gives Gukesh a lot of confidence because you know you can do it again once you’ve done it once. And that’s the strategy,” Gajewski stated.

“I don’t know what happened,” Gukesh stated after the game, claiming to still be trembling. In the time scramble, Carlsen, who had outplayed his opponent and had been error-free for almost the whole game, lost control.
Later, when questioned about Carlsen’s actions, Gukesh told chess.com that the response was reasonable given the circumstances and went on to say: “No, it was heartbreaking how he lost.” I get it. I’ve also knocked over a lot of tables throughout my job. There were some off-camera and a couple on. But I was attempting to relax, so I wasn’t really observing what he did.
Well, I was limited in what I could do. It was just lost. According to Sportstar, Gukesh stated, “I was just trying to make moves which were kind of tricky for him.”
“I mean, I would have lost 99 out of 100 times. Yes, that was a fortunate day,” he said.
Carlsen shared a social media message that said, “You come at the king, you best not miss,” in celebration of his previous victory over Gukesh in the first round.
Carlsen has lost against an Indian youngster at Norway Chess twice in the last two years.
